How to choose the right texture finish for your house
Grace Rockwall site team · Updated 2026-10-22
Short answer
Match the finish to the look you want and the condition of your wall: rockwall or graffiti for a bold stone texture that hides flaws, Sand Tex for a fine calm surface, stucco for smooth polished porches and pillars, travertino for a premium natural-stone look, and Grace Wall when budget matters most. A sample patch on your own wall settles the final choice.
Start with three questions
- What look do you want? Bold and rough, fine and calm, smooth and polished, or natural stone?
- What condition is the wall in? Cracks and uneven plaster favour a bolder grain.
- What is the budget? Finishes differ in how much hand work they need. Contact us for exact prices after a site visit.
The six finishes in plain words
Rockwall is a thick stone-textured coating, the most common exterior texture. It covers small flaws and takes deep colours well.
Graffiti (also called graffiato) is scraped while wet to open a rough, stone-like grain. Bolder than rockwall and very popular for front elevations.
Sand Tex (pocha) is a fine, even sand grain. Calmer and easier to keep clean, good on large plain walls and double-tone designs.
Stucco is a smooth, hand-worked plaster finish for porches, pillars, entrances and feature walls.
Travertino recreates the layered, veined look of travertine stone, our most premium finish.
Grace Wall is a cleaner, lighter grain and our most economical texture, ideal for boundary walls and large areas.
Match the finish to the wall
| Your situation | A good starting point |
|---|---|
| Old wall with small cracks | Graffiti or rockwall |
| Large plain elevation, modern design | Sand Tex |
| Porch, entrance or pillars | Stucco |
| Feature wall or premium front | Travertino |
| Boundary wall on a budget | Grace Wall |
Colour matters as much as texture
Light and warm shades such as sand, ivory and cream stay cooler and age gracefully in strong sun. Deep shades look rich but show dust and need more pigment. Two-tone bands add depth to a plain front. Always check a colour in your own light, because it changes between morning and evening.

Always test on your own wall
Photos and screens never match a real wall. Our free site visit includes a small sample patch of your chosen finish and colour so you see exactly what you are getting before the job starts.
